Nor'easters finish as runners-up at CCC meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The University of New England men's cross country team placed second out of six teams at the 2012 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship hosted by Western New England University on Saturday (Oct. 27).

Roger Williams University distanced itself from the field, posting a team score of 22. The Nor'easters had a total of 48, followed by Gordon College in third at 83.

UNE sophomore Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) finished just three seconds behind winner Jack Ferguson (Roger Williams) to claim second place. Lyons circled the eight-kilometer loop in a time of 26:55.

Sophomore Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) was seventh with a time of 27:23, while first-year CJ Vallie (Nashua, N.H.) placed 10th with a time of 28:12. Lyons, Murphy and Vallie were each named to the all-conference team.

The Nor'easters rounded out their scoring with junior Daniel Raboin (Lunenburg, Mass.) -- 14th at 28:40 -- and first-year Taylor Vogt (Bow, N.H.) -- 15th at 28:53.

Big Blue will compete in the ECAC Championship next Saturday (Nov. 3). The event will be held at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass. and is slated to start at 11 a.m.
