Lokey completes UNE comeback with OT winner

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.) scored just 19 seconds into overtime to give the University of New England men's ice hockey team a 5-4 victory over the University of Rhode Island in an exhibition match played before an estimated crowd of more than 600 Friday evening (Oct. 26) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Big Blue had trailed 3-1 entering the 3rd period, but received goals from first-year Ryan Quinn (Burlington, Mass.) and Lokey in the first six minutes of the frame to even things up (3-3).

The Rams went back in front a mere 45 seconds later, only to see sophomore Nick Kolb (Virginia Beach, Va.) bring it back to 4-4 after another 38 ticks off the clock.

The teams played the remainder of the 3rd without any scoring, setting the stage for Lokey's game-winner. Sophomore Mike Chase (Falmouth, Maine) assisted on the play -- one of eight different UNE players to help on a scoring play.

Sophomore Craig Ryan (Wallingford, Conn.) relieved junior starting goaltender Ian Edwards (Linden, Mich.) after the 1st period and turned in 21 saves the rest of the way.

Edwards registered 11 stops in the opening session, which ended tied at 1-1 after a late goal by junior Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.).

The Nor'easters begin their ECAC East League schedule next Friday (Nov. 2) when Skidmore College comes into town for a 7 p.m. contest.
