KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team had all four of its scoring rounds in the 70's on Monday (Oct. 1), en route to a third-place showing at the UNE Invitational. Big Blue posted a score of 309 under very windy conditions at Cape Arundel Golf Club -- eight strokes back of the event winners, the University of Southern Maine.

The Huskies were led by an impressive 3-under-par 66 from medalist Josh Hogan on the way to a 301 total. Endicott College needed its last individual round of the afternoon from third-place finisher Austin Teal (74) to pass UNE for second as a team (308).

The University of Maine Farmington (332), Maine Maritime Academy (342), and Saint Joseph's College (352) rounded out the six-team field. Kevin Richardson of the Monks closed as the individual runner-up with a 1-over-par 72.

By far the most consistent team on the day, top-to-bottom, the Nor'easters were paced by 77's from junior Andy Emery (Winthrop, Maine), sophomore Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.), and graduate student Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine). First-year Paul Butkevich (Pomfret Center, Conn.) chipped in with a 78, while junior Mat Brown (Charleston, Maine) recorded an 80.

Big Blue is off until Sunday when it heads back to Gorham Country Club for the first of two days at the USM Fall Classic.
