BRISTOL, R.I. -- Roger Williams University received two wins apiece from Kristen Grandonico and Alana Mercucio to help the Hawks top the University of New England women's swimming team, 170-117, Saturday afternoon at the Aquatics Center.
Big Blue senior
Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) garnered three individual victories on the day to lead all competitors. Wareham claimed the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races (25.38 and 57.06, respectively), and then the 100 butterfly (1:02.93).
UNE also got a pair of event wins from sophomore Jenn LaComfora (Worcester, Mass.) in support. She triumphed in two backstroke swims -- the 100-yard (1:06.24) and the 200 (2:20.74). Additionally, LaComfora took second in the 200 individual medley.
The Nor'easters (8-2) earned first-place points from senior
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) and the 400 free relay squad as well. Shea's time of 2:34.96 in the 200 breaststroke was 0.64 seconds better than the next swimmer, and the relay group teamed up finish 1.21 seconds ahead of the Hawks.
Roger Williams (3-4) had two more individual wins and captured the 200 medley relay to start the meet, edging UNE by 0.24 seconds.
Big Blue is back at home next Saturday (Jan. 28) against Colby-Sawyer College.
