GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Mathew Brown (Charleston, Maine) and first-year Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) teamed up to card the low score of the day -- a 3-under-par 68 -- and help the University of New England men's golf team snag second place at the Southern Maine Cup, played Friday at Gorham Country Club. The host Huskies finished with a 213 total, and an eight-stroke win.

UNE (221), the University of Maine-Farmington (229), and Saint Joseph's College (233) rounded out the field at the event that features a modified format to the usual scoring system, with each squad putting forth three, two-man teams to go play six holes of best ball, six of scramble, and six of alternate shot.

Senior Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) and sophomore Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) got together to shoot a 74, and senior Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) worked with junior Nate Guerette (Manchester, N.H.) to record a 79.

The Nor'easters wrap up their season on Monday, hosting the UNE Invitational at Cape Arundel Golf Club (10 a.m.).
