BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Kelsea Beisaw (Jay, Maine) scored with just under 21 minutes remaining to break a tie game and lift the University of New England to a 2-1 victory over Wheaton College (Mass.) in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.

After the teams played to a scoreless first half, junior Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.) put the hosts on the board with 25:48 to go on a drive from the left side into the far side of the cage. Senior Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) set-up the goal with a slip pass from the top of the circle.

Just 54 seconds later, Lyons senior Bonnie Davies (Roxbury, Conn.) tucked a drive inside the right post from the top of the circle to level things back up at 1-1. Classmate Aliza Underhill (Corinth, Maine) started the play with the insert off a penalty corner.

UNE returned the pressure to the Wheaton defense, and after a pair of penalty corners came up empty, Beisaw collected a loose ball on the right side and blasted it near-post for what would be the game-winner.

The Lyons managed to draw eight corners the rest of the way, but could not find the equalizer before time expired. For the contest, Wheaton had an 18-11 edge in penalty corners.

Rookie goalie Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) denied four shots by the visitors to earn the win for the Nor'easters (2-0), while her counterpart, sophomore Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass.), made seven saves in defeat.

Both squads are back at it on Sunday. As Wheaton (1-1) travels up to face Husson University, UNE is set to entertain Castleton State College beginning at 2 p.m. The game can be seen LIVE on Nor'easters All-Access -- UNE's pay-per-view webcasting service.
