WATERVILLE, Maine -- The senior duo of
Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) and
Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) paired up to shoot an even par round of 70, helping lead the University of New England men's golf team to victory Saturday at the Colby College Classic. UNE's full team total of 213 was good enough to edge the host Mules by two strokes.
The annual event features a modified format to the usual standards, with each squad putting forth three, two-man teams to go play six holes of best ball, six of scramble, and six of alternate shot.
Sophomore Mathew Brown (Charleston, Maine) and first-year
Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) got together to fire a 71, while sophomores Andrew Emery (Winthrop, Maine) and
Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) carded a 72.
After Colby's 215 came Bates College (220), UMaine Farmington (225), and Maine Maritime Academy (237).
The Bobcats' Jared Quinzel and Garret Bonney had the low score of the day at 69.
UNE continues its busy schedule tomorrow and Monday with the two-day University of Southern Maine Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club.
