WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England punched in a pair of first-half goals and received a season-high 14 saves from first-year goalie Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) to come away with a 2-0 shutout of Colby College in non-conference field hockey action played Tuesday night at Bill Alfond Field.

Big Blue made strides towards extending its best start in program history (8-0) just 3:59 into the contest, as senior Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) drove home the first shot of the game -- her team-leading fifth goal of the season -- on a penalty corner. Sophomore Casey Clark (Bethlehem, N.H.) and junior Emily Koehler (Pelham, N.H.) registered assists on the play.

The visitors increased the margin to two 14 minutes later, when Oswald raced up the field and her centering pass was put in by sophomore Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, Maine) in front.

Colby turned up the pressure in the second half, amassing a 14-4 advantage in shots and 5-1 edge in corners, but could not break through the UNE defense. Despite being doubled up in the shot category (20-10), Warren and the Nor'easters kept a clean sheet for the third time this season.

For the Mules (0-3), who entertain nationally-ranked Tufts University on Saturday (1 p.m.), sophomore netminder Michelle Burt (Woodbridge, Conn.) recorded six stops.

UNE gets back to its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule the same day with a home match against Salve Regina University. Game time from the Big Blue Turf is scheduled for 5 p.m., and fans can continue to sign-up to watch all of the action LIVE on Nor'easters All-Access -- the webcasting service provided by the UNE Sports Information Office in partnership with SIDEARM Sports.
