Nor'easters share third place at Maine Championship

Andrew Emery led the way for UNE with a two-day total of 158, and an 11th-place finish

CUMBERLAND, Maine -- Husson University posted an impressive score of 295 on day one at the Maine Intercollegiate Championship, and backed it up with a 305 Sunday at Val Halla Golf Club to claim the team title by a 36-stroke margin over Bowdoin College (636). The University of New England finished the event in a tie for third with the University of Southern Maine at 651.

With a pair of even-par rounds of 72 from David DuBois II and Matthew Loubier, Husson assumed a sizeable lead (17 strokes) after 18 holes on Saturday. Both ended the tournament with scores of 150 in a tie for second. With all eight rounds counting towards the team total in the 70's over the weekend, Eagles took back the top honors in the event after UNE ended their six-year run last season.

Bowdoin's Bobby Kaminski finished first individually, posting 72-75 for a plus-five 147 total.

Sophomore Andrew Emery (Winthrop, Maine) headed the Nor'easter effort, recording a 158 (78-80) to end up in a tie for 11th. Big Blue, which was alone in fourth position after the first round (323), moved up past Bates College (318-334=652) and was caught by USM (332-319) in the final round.

Also scoring for UNE was senior Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) with a 36-hole total 161 (81-80), followed by sophomore Mathew Brown (Charleston, Maine) at 166 (85-81), junior Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) at 168 (79-89), and sophomore Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) at 174 (87-87).

The Nor'easters are back in action Tuesday at the John Queenan Memorial hosted by Saint Joseph's College. Tee times at Point Sebago Golf Club in Casco are slated to begin at 10:15 a.m.
