Laura Egounis' goal in the final minutes of play helped Big Blue go to a perfect 6-0 in 2011
Box Score
STANDISH, Maine -- Junior defender
Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.) converted on a pass from sophomore
Casey Clark (Bethlehem, N.H.) with 3:03 left in regulation to turn a scoreless game into a 1-0 victory for the University of New England over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Lakeside Field.
The Nor'easters move to 6-0 with the win -- the best start in program history, since the 2004 squad reeled off five straight triumphs to begin the season. The decision also ends a two-game skid in the series versus the Monks, who now sit at 2-1 on the year.
After a slow start to the match, with each team getting off five shots in the first 35 minutes, UNE turned up the offensive pressure in the second half. Big Blue fired 12 shots in the direction of the St. Joe's cage, to just six the other way for the Monks, before the deciding marker went through.
The hosts had two shot attempts in the closing moments to try and draw even, but both cracks were blocked away in front.
First-year goalie
Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) earned her second shutout of the season by making eight saves for the Nor'easters, who are set to entertain Endicott College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener on Saturday. Game time from the Big Blue Turf is scheduled for 1 p.m., and fans can continue to sign-up to watch all of the action LIVE on

For St. Joe's, which travels to Simmons College the same day, senior netminder Meaghan Johnson (Portland, Maine) recorded 16 stops.
