Huskies slip by Nor'easters at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies earned four of the first 10 spots on their way to a team score of 33 to take the 2011 University of New England Invitational on Saturday at Rotary Park.

Junior Josh Grant (Nashua, N.H.) of Lyndon State College raced away with the individual title, covering the eight-kilometer course in a time of 28:16.

USM sophomore Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) helped the Huskies to victory with a time of 28:56 to finish second. UNE first-year Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) placed third, posting a time of 29:05.

Murphy was supported by sophomore Daniel Raboin (Lunenburg, Mass.) in fifth at 29:18 and fellow sophomore Geoff Wahome (Lowell, Mass.) in seventh at 29:22.

Other scoring runners for Big Blue included sophomore Nate DiMartino (Hilton, N.Y.) and junior Bosco Oringa (Portland, Maine). DiMartino placed 14th (30:13) while Oringa was 21st (31:00).

The Nor'easters have next week off before returning to action Sep. 24 at the Elms College Blazer Invitational.
