Nor'easters wrap up regular season with loss at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Fourteen different players scored as eighth-ranked Colby College defeated the University of New England, 20-1, in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Bill Alfond Field.

The Mules improve to 10-2 on the year, while UNE concludes its regular season with a mark of 4-13.

Senior Kate Gragnolati (Chevy Chase, Md.) tallied a team-high five points (3G, 2A) for Colby, and classmate Anne Geraghty (Westford, Mass.) also recorded three scores. Junior Lane McVey (Bronxville, N.Y.) and first-year Kirsten Karis (Southboro, Mass.) each added a pair of markers. Sophomore Tess Petesch (Rockville, Md.) registered a team-best four assists off the bench.

Colby struck nine times in the opening 12 minutes to assume control of the contest. For the game, the hosts finished with significant advantages in shots (28-8) and draw controls (19-3).

After all 14 first-half goals went for the Mules, the Nor'easters got on the board with first goal of the second half, courtesy of junior Jessy Dvorak (Windsor, Conn.).

In goal for Colby, senior Sarah Warnke (Lakeville, Conn.) made three first-half saves before giving way to first-year Michelle Burt (Woodbridge, Conn.). The Mules resume NESCAC play on Saturday with a home match against Connecticut College.

UNE first-year goalie Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine) turned away four shots in the setback.
