WNEC moves over .500 mark with 17-1 win over UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and junior Liz McRoberts (Bourne, Mass.) each notched three goals to pace Western New England College in a 17-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.

Four different players added a pair of goals -- senior Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, Conn.), junior Katie Toomey (Northborough, Mass.) and first-years Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, Conn.) and Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.).

McRoberts earned a match-best seven draw controls for WNEC (4-3, 2-0 TCCC), while senior Nicole Poli (Medfield, Mass.) was credited with five ground balls.

Senior Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) earned the win in goal with 10 saves in 49:29 of playing time.

Senior Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) scored the only goal of the game for the Nor'easters (1-6, 0-4), who were outshot 34-18. First-year goalie Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine) registered 10 stops and five ground balls for Big Blue.

Each team returns to action Tuesday. Western New England heads to Newport, R.I. for a 4:30 p.m. match at Salve Regina University. The Nor'easters play host to Regis College at 4 p.m.
