Box Score
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Sophomore forward
Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) tallied two third-period goals to help the University of New England men's hockey team secure a wire-to-wire victory over Connecticut College, 6-3, in an ECAC East/NESCAC crossover contest played Saturday afternoon at Dayton Arena.
The Nor'easters (5-17, 2-15 ECAC East), winners of two of their last three games, went in front after 14 minutes of the opening period on a goal by junior
Justin Miner (Stratham, N.H.). Sophomore
Adam Laite (Sydney, Nova Scotia) assisted on the play.
UNE took that score into the second session, when it struck twice in a span of 1:59 early on to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Junior
Scott McManaman (Amherst, Nova Scotia) put home his sixth marker of the season 1:23 into the period, and sophomore
Brendan Brickley (Everett, Mass.) set-up a Laite goal shortly after.
Camels junior J.J. McGregor (Wichita, Kan.) got the hosts on the board a mere 39 seconds later, and senior Jordan Gray (Mississauga, Ontario) pulled Conn. College to within 3-2 on a power play goal at the 11:34 mark.
Fleurent notched what would be the game-winner on the power play 1:41 into the third period off a pass from first-year
Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.), and a Brickley-from-Laite score five and a half minutes after made it 5-2.
Conn. College junior Sean Curran (Wilmette, Ill.) recorded his second assist of the day as McGregor found the back of the net again midway through the final period, before Sullivan fed Fleurent again to cap the scoring.
Big Blue first-year
Connor Brogan (Hershey, Pa.) made 21 stops to earn his third victory of the year for the Nor'easters, who conclude the regular season with visits to Trinity College and Wesleyan University in Connecticut next weekend.
For the home team, junior Andrew Margolin (Mahwah, N.J.) posted 39 saves. The Camels (7-12-3, 6-10-1 NESCAC) make a trip to Vermont next weekend for dates with Norwich University and Saint Michael's College.
