BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey team scored five times in the second period to erase a 3-1 deficit on its way to an 8-3 victory over the University of New England in ECAC East action Saturday afternoon at the Biddeford Ice Arena.
The win was the first league win of the season for the Beacons, who improve to 3-5-2 overall (1-5 ECAC East). The Nor'easters fall to 2-6-1 overall, 1-5 in league play.
Trailing 3-1 very early in the second, UMass Boston reeled off seven unanswered tallies -- five in the frame -- to blow open the contest. Senior Andrew Burke (Southampton, Pa.) and first-year Corey Chakeen (Quincy, Mass.) notched four of the five goals for the visitors in the decisive period.
First-year Faiz Khan (Newhall, Calif.) joined Burke and Chakeen as a repeat goal-scorer for the Beacons, who outshot UNE 21-4 to pull away in the second period. Senior Anthony Fitti (Havertown, Pa.) recorded three assists in the frame.
Senior Bryan Albert (Redlands, Calif.) finished with three helpers, while Chakeen and Khan added an assist to their two-goal efforts to account for three points apiece.

UMass Boston senior goaltender Kevin Bendel (Denville, N.J.) needed 18 saves to record his first victory of the season.

Craig Ryan (Wallingford, Conn.) made 22 stops over the first two periods for UNE, then sophomore
Ian Edwards (Linden, Mich.) came on to register five saves in the third stanza.
Both teams play one more contest before the holidays. The Beacons travel a few miles down the road to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday evening at 7 p.m., and Big Blue heads to Franklin Pierce University for a 7 p.m. game Friday.
