SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward Tony Giacin found the back of the net with 7:41 left to give Skidmore College a 3-2 ECAC East League victory over the University of New England men's ice hockey team, in a game played Saturday evening at Saratoga Ice Rink.

The Thoroughbreds even their record at 1-1 with the decision, while Big Blue now sits at 0-2.

Skidmore's David Limoges got the hosts off to a quick start, pocketing two scores in the opening 1:56 of the first period. Zach Menard recorded the primary assist on both goals.

UNE was awarded a penalty shot later in the frame, and senior captain Scott McManaman (Amherst, Nova Scotia) cashed in on the attempt to make the deficit one (2-1) after one.

The Nor'easters found themselves on the power play during the middle portion of the second stanza, and junior Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) capitalized on the man-advantage by putting in his second goal of the season. Sophomores Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) and Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.) tallied assists on the play.

Skidmore came out firing in the final period, where it out-shot UNE by a 17-4 margin. Giacin's deciding marker came off passes from Alex Essaris and Aaron Beck.

Thoroughbreds netminder Colin Bessey turned in 24 stops to get the win. Skidmore travels to Saint Anslem College on Friday.

Sophomore goalie Ian Edwards (Linden, Mich.) entered the game less than two minutes in, and finished with 39 saves and one goal allowed. The Nor'easters kick off their home schedule the same day with a date against the nation's third-ranked squad -- Norwich University (7 p.m.).
