Nor'easters put up 6th-place showing at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- With the 26th, 29th, and 30th runners to cross the finish line -- led by first-year Geoff Wahome (Lowell, Mass.) -- the University of New England men's cross country team finished sixth out of 31 Saturday at the James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University. The Coast Guard Academy claimed the team title with a score of 67.

Wahome used a blazing 5:32 pace to clock a time of 27:30. Sophomore Daniel Raboin (Lunenberg, Mass.) and first-year Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) followed closely behind Wahome, posting times of 27:33 and 27:35 to place 29th and 30th, respectively.

Sophomore Nate DiMartino (Hilton, N.Y.) and first-year Sean Hanrahan (Amston, Conn.) rounded out UNE's scoring runners with times of 28:20 and 29:13.

Alex Gomes of Salem State University won the race with a time of 25:43.

The Nor'easters will compete in the Maine Intercollegiate Championship next Saturday at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.
