BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Kameron Klauber (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored four times and assisted on another goal to power the MIT Engineers to a 6-2 non-conference field hockey victory over the University of New England on Wednesday evening at the Big Blue Turf.

MIT -- the top-rated team in the NCAA Division III New England East Region -- won for the eighth time in its last nine starts to up its record to 14-3. Ranked second in that same poll, the Nor'easters fall to 16-2.

Klauber and the Engineers wasted no time in lighting up the scoreboard. The senior forward recorded a hat-trick in the opening 13:13 to give the visitors enough offense for the evening. Her first two tallies were unassisted -- the first after a long rush from just inside half field, and the second coming when she picked up a loose ball and rattled a shot off both goal posts before it rolled over the line. Her third marker followed a crossing pass from sophomore Molly Duffy (New Providence, N.J.).

The Nor'easters would get into the scoring column in the 22nd minute when sophomore Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) maneuvered between a pair of MIT defenders and converted a shot from about eight yards out.

MIT closed the first-half scoring nine minutes later when Klauber swept a pass from the left side that junior Kimberly Barker (Camden, N.Y.) one-timed into the cage.

UNE struck first in the final frame, converting on a penalty corner. Junior Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.) ripped a drive from just inside the left portion of the arc that was tipped in by Tavella to cut the Nor'easters' deficit in half (4-2).

The visitors pushed their lead to 5-2 in the 51st minute when senior Anna Teruya (Hockessin, Del.) caged a penalty stroke.

Klauber completed the scoring at 56:59, putting home a shot from right-of-center for her 17th tally of the season.

Sophomore Casey Landry (Peabody, Mass.) worked the first half between the pipes for MIT, recording a pair of saves to raise her record to 12-2. First-year Jenna Klein (Parma, Ohio) came on after halftime and made six stops.

Rookie Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) turned aside six shots for the Nor'easters, who will conclude their regular season Saturday versus Salve Regina University (1 p.m.) in a match to be played at Gaudet Field in Middletown, R.I.

MIT travels to Babson College that same afternoon for a 12:30 p.m. start.
