Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore Casey Clark (Bethlehem, N.H.) upped her team-leading goal total to 10 with a pair of scores in the opening 9:44, sending the 20th-ranked University of New England field hockey team on its way to victory number 13 on the season -- a 3-1 defeat of Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Monday afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium.

The Nor'easters (13-0) move to 5-0 in league games, and have come away victorious from all five of the meetings versus Western New England (4-10, 2-3 CCC) in the all-time series.

Clark started the scoring 7:28 into the match, cashing in on a pass from classmate Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.). After another 2:16, Clark doubled the margin (2-0) when she collected the rebound off her own shot and found the back of the cage with the second attempt.

Senior Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) pushed the lead to 3-0 late in the opening period with an unassisted marker. The goal was the 36th of her career, tying the forward with Michaela Franey '11 for second place in program history.

Just past the midway point of the second half, the Golden Bears got on the board as first-year Whitney Fraleigh (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put in her fourth goal of the season.

UNE first-year Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) turned aside six shots to get the triumph in goal, while her counterpart, junior Kaitlyn Hall (Providence, R.I.), recorded 11 saves.

Big Blue ended the game with sizeable advantages in shots (23-11) and penalty corners (10-3).

Western New England is back on the pitch Thursday with a non-conference tilt against Smith College (4 p.m.), while the Nor'easters are off until Saturday when they travel to face Endicott College (12 p.m.).
