SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- Behind an even par round of 70 from medalist Chris Hamel (Waterville, Maine), Husson University pulled away from the University of New England and others to win by 12 strokes at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic, which concluded Monday in the cold wind and rain at Sable Oaks Golf Club. The Nor'easters two-day score of 641 was good for a tie for second place with Endicott College.
The Eagles had a team total of 312 on day two to finish the 36-hole event at 629. UNE's 323 and the Gulls' 316 from Monday left the two tied overall total, a dozen strokes behind.
UMaine Farmington managed a 312 in round two to finish at 642 and a close fourth. USM (661), Saint Joseph's College (675), and Emmanuel College (776) rounded out the field.
Hamel won the individual title with a score of 146, while UNE first-year Andrew Emery (Winthrop, Maine) took second at 150 (73-77). UMF's Nick Waltz (Damariscotta, Maine) finished third with a 151 (75-76).

Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) came in for the Nor'easters with a two-day totals of 161, and junior
Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) also contributed to the team score, posting a 169.
UNE returns to Sable Oaks Friday for the Southern Maine Cup.
