Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Senior midfielder Michaela Franey (York, Maine) broke a school single-game record by scoring four goals, powering the University of New England field hockey team to a 5-2 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win over Salve Regina University Saturday evening under the lights at Gaudet Field.

With UNE clinging to a 2-1 advantage at intermission, Franey took the game over in the early stages of the second frame, scoring three consecutive times over the opening 21:47 of the frame. Her fourth goal of the contest broke the previous single-game mark achieved 12 times by 10 different players, including junior Bree Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) earlier this season.

The Nor'easters' other goal of the match came off the stick of junior Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) with 23:55 elapsed in the first half, which at the time gave Big Blue a 2-0 advantage.

UNE was buoyed by the return of Tupper, who had missed the previous two games with an injury. She handed out a pair of assists to give her 11 total points in four matches.

Nikki Schlegel and Samantha Dalton accounted for the Seahawks' two goals.

Senior goalkeeper Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) registered a season-high 14 saves for the Nor'easters (3-3, 1-1 TCCC). Natalie Balletta made 12 saves in a losing effort for Salve Regina (0-7, 0-2).

UNE has less than 24 hours away from the pitch as they take on Wheaton College in a 2 p.m. non-conference tilt tomorrow. That game will be played at Faxon Field in Rehoboth, Mass.
