Nor'easters finish fourth at UMF Invitational; Husson wins

NEWRY, Maine -- Led by first-year Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) with a 78, the University of New England golf team placed fourth out of eight teams at UMaine Farmington Invitational, held Thursday at Sunday River Golf Club.

Husson University and Bowdoin College tied for the low team score at 320, with the Eagles coming away victorious based on the individual score posted by their fifth player.

The host Beavers came in third with a total of 325, and the Nor'easters grabbed the fourth spot with a team total of 329.

Saint Joseph's College (332), University of Southern Maine (339), Bates College (366), and Maine Maritime Academy (379) rounded out the field.

UMF's Nick Waltz (Damariscotta, Maine) carded a three-over-par 75 to earn the medalist honors.

For UNE, senior Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) chipped in with an 82, while first-years Mathew Brown (Charleston, Maine) and Andrew Emery (Winthrop, Maine) shot 83 and 86, respectively. Junior Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) finished with an 89.

All of the teams will be back on the course tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday for the two-day State Championship in Boothbay, Maine.
