BRISTOL, R.I. -- After five consecutive third-place finishes in the event, the University of New England put forth its best effort since 2000 at The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Championship meet, placing runner-up to host Roger Williams University Saturday at Colt State Park.
The Hawks won for the 10th straight season, using the scores from the top three finishers to help get a team score of 23. Sophomore Mitch Leveille (North Kingstown, R.I.) earned the TCCC Runner of the Year honor by taking claiming the individual title on the 8-kilometer course in an even 27 minutes.
The TCCC Rookie of the Year award went to first-year Jack Ferguson (Bethel, Conn.), who came in right after his teammate at 27:16.
First-year
Brandon Mulligan (Westfield, Mass.) paced Big Blue with an all-TCCC performance, registering a sixth-place finish with a time of 27:38. UNE totaled a score of 80, having three runners in the top 25.
Western New England (92), Gordon College (95), New England College (107), Colby-Sawyer College (141), Anna Maria College (213), and Salve Regina University (217) rounded out the field.
First-years Daniel Raboin (Lunenberg, Mass.) and Nathan DiMartino (Hilton, N.Y.) placed 18th (28:42) and 20th (28:54), respectively, in support for the Nor'easters. Juniors
Bosco Oringa (Portland, Maine) and
Jonathan Dupuis (Groveton, N.H.) also factored in the scoring, with times one second on either side of the 29:23 mark.
UNE returns to Colt State Park next Saturday (November 6) for the ECAC Division III Championship meet.
