PAXTON, Mass. -- With scores from junior Bree Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) and sophomore Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.), the University of New England picked up a 2-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Anna Maria College in field hockey action Saturday morning at AMCAT Field.

The win was the third straight in conference matches for the Nor'easters (5-4, 3-1 TCCC), who defeated Anna Maria for the fifth consecutive time. The Amcats dropped their eighth contest in-a-row, and now sit at 1-9 overall (0-4 TCCC).

Tupper put the visitors on the board early, scoring off a pass from senior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) just 1:44 into the contest.

UNE took the 1-0 lead into halftime, despite out-shooting its opponent by a margin of 11-0.

The Nor'easters continued to control play in the second frame, finishing with large advantages in both shots (27-2) and penalty corners (19-1). Egounis gave Big Blue some breathing room with her first goal of the season in the 61st minute. First-year Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) registered an assist on the play, which started as a penalty corner.

Anna Maria senior goalkeeper Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) put forth a very solid performance for the hosts, turning away 21 shots fired her direction. Her counterpart, UNE senior Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) was only called upon to make two saves.

Both squads are on the road Wednesday. The Nor'easters visit Endicott College (4 p.m.), while the Amcats travel to New England College (6:30 p.m.).
