Pilgrims sail by Nor'easters for 4-0 shutout

NEC picked up its third consecutive victory with a 4-0 home shutout Friday evening

HENNIKER, N.H. -- Host New England College scored twice in each of the first two periods on its way to a 4-0 shutout of the University of New England in an ECAC Men's East ice hockey game played Friday evening.

The Pilgrims opened the scoring at 14:37 of the first period when Geoff Shewmake converted passes from Niko Uola and Bill McGinnis. NEC would double its lead three minutes later on Mark Ehl's seventh goal of the season.

New England took advantage of six UNE penalties in the second frame to score a pair of power-play tallies. Alex Muse notched the first one at 8:46, then Johan Granath followed less than a minute later to provide the final margin of 4-0.

Aaron Harvey made 17 saves to register the shutout for the Pilgrims (6-4-1, 2-3-1 ECAC), who nearly doubled-up UNE in shots on goal (33-17).

First-year goaltender Dallas Ungurian turned aside 29 shots for the Nor'easters (1-9, 0-6), who skate at St. Anslem College tomorrow. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
