Nor'easters ease past Gordon in women's swimming

WENHAM, Mass. -- Three University of New England swimmers won two events apiece in a 133-84 win at Gordon College Saturday afternoon. In all, the Nor'easters picked up nine victories as they improved to 7-3 on the season. The Fighting Scots fall to 0-6.

Sophomore Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) claimed both individual events she competed in, winning the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. In the 100 free, Wareham (57.41) edged Gordon's Christina Clark (Fredericton, Neb.) by 1.27 seconds.

First-year Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.56 -- 0.51 seconds fasters than the Fighting Scots' Cassie Buchanan (Woodbridge, Calif.). Earlier in the meet, Hanley won the 200-yard freestyle.

Classmate Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) took a pair of backstroke events on the day. She narrowly topped teammate Nori McLeod (Wiscasset, Maine) in the 50-yard, then touched the wall first in the 100-yard later.

Senior Alison Leopard (Bloomington, Ill.) and Hannah Lipomi (Enfield, Conn.) also earned victories for the Nor'easters, who host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Monday at 1 p.m.
