Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior forward Joanne Reid (Clarksville, Md.) scored off a penalty corner with 19:09 remaining to give the Endicott College Gulls a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey game played Saturday.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Gulls, who square their overall record at 4-4 and improve to 2-1 in conference matches. UNE falls to 4-2, 2-1 in TCCC play.
With the scored tied at 1-all, Reid tallied her team-leading fifth goal from three yards inside the circle after the Gulls were awarded a penalty corner. Sophomore Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.) and first-year Cassie DeSimone (Reading, Mass.) were credited with assists on the play.
Giannoni converted from close range at 8:04 of the first half to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
The score remained that way until 13:12 into the second frame when junior Cassandra Bushey (North Hartland, Vt.) tallied her first goal of the season to knot the match (1-1).
Endicott first-year goalkeeper Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) made three stops to earn the victory. Her counterpart -- junior Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) -- turned away four shots for the Nor'easters.
The Gulls held a slim 12-9 margin in shots, while each squad earned five penalty corners.
Endicott will look to climb over .500 Thursday when it hosts MIT for a non-conference game beginning at 6 p.m.
UNE heads to Thomas College that same afternoon for a 4 p.m. start.
