Senior Nathan Fairfield led the Nor'easters to a solid third-place showing Tuesday
CASCO, Maine -- Led by a season-best 81 from senior
Nathan Fairfield (Bath, Maine), the University of New England golf team finished third out of a field of six teams at the John Queenan Memorial hosted by St. Joseph's College at Point Sebago Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
Husson University posted a team score of 310 to win the event by 30 strokes. UMaine Farmington (340) nipped the Nor'easters (341) by one shot. The University of Southern Maine (342), Thomas College (342) and the host Monks (353) rounded out the remainder of the team scores.
Junior
Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) shot 85 for the Nor'easters, while sophomore
Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) posted 87, and classmate
Steve Dillon (Sanford, Maine) 88. Junior
Adrian Mendes (Seymour, Conn.) shot 90 to complete UNE's lineup.
Husson's Kevin Byrne earned medalist honors by firing a one-over round of 73.
UNE returns to the links this Friday and Saturday at the Maine Intercollegiate Championship to be held at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.
