MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Junior Taryn Flagg (Livemore Falls, Maine) and sophomore Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) each had a goal and an assist to lead the University of New England past Salve Regina University, 3-2, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

The win moves the Nor'easters to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in conference games. Losers of three of their last four, the Seahawks fall to 3-4 (0-2 TCCC) on the season.

Flagg struck first at the 10:27 mark from the top of the circle to put the visitors ahead, 1-0. The advantage was short-lived, as Salve Regina first-year Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) evened things up 20 seconds later on a shot from eight yards out.

UNE regained control midway through the first half when Oswald fed junior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) who slapped home a turnaround shot from just in front of the cage. And once again, Burke responded for the Seahawks with her second tally of the contest on a one-timer from the right side. The goal came with 20:47 gone in the opening frame off a pass from first-year Kelly Allan (East Killingly, Conn.).

Oswald put the Nor'easters on top for good just 10 seconds later, off a pass from Flagg.

Junior goalie Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) made six saves for UNE, including a pair on penalty stroke attempts in the 27th and 46th minutes.

Salve Regina, which received 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Devin Eppley (Darien, Conn.), returns to action Tuesday when they host Fitchburg State.

UNE is off until next Saturday when Endicott College comes to Biddeford for an 11 a.m. conference match.
