Nor'easters take fifth at UMF Invitational

NEWRY, Maine -- Even though the UMaine Farmington Invitational moved this season from Belgrade Lakes GC to Sunday River GC, Husson University made sure the outcome from previous years did not change. The Eagles posted a team total of 322 Thursday to win the event for the 10th consecutive time.

Sophomore Matt Loubier (Winslow, Maine) led Husson, earning medalist honors with a score of 6-over-par 78.

The University of Southern Maine took second with a team score of 331, while event host UMaine Farmington placed third with a total of 334.

Thomas College (346), the University of New England (350), Bates College (351), Saint Joseph's College (354), and Maine Maritime Academy (372) rounded out the 8-team field.

Juniors Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) and Adrian Mendes (Seymour, Conn.) each carded a score of 82 to help the Nor'easters to a fifth-place finish. Sophomore Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) and junior Steve Dillon (Sanford, Maine) shot 92 and 94, respectively, and senior Nathan Fairfield (Bath, Maine) withdrew midway through the round with an injury.

UNE is of until Tuesday when it plays in the John Queenan Memorial Tournament hosted by Saint Joseph's College at Point Sebago Golf Resort.
