BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Crossing the finish line with the first nine runners Saturday morning at Rotary Park, the University of Southern Maine posted a perfect score of 15 and won the University of New England Invitational for the third consecutive year.

Senior Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine) took first place on the 8,000 meter course with a time of 25:58, 10 seconds faster than classmate Justin Richardson (Turner, Maine) who finished in second.

The University of New England and Lyndon State College tied for second place with scores of 78, but the Nor'easters got the nod based on team time differential. Maine Maritime Academy totaled a score of 95 in fourth place, and UMaine Presque Isle (156), Saint Joseph's College (163), Thomas College (183), and Unity College (NS) rounded out the field.

Junior Matt Veiga (Lynn, Mass.) led the Nor'easters with a tenth-place showing and a race time of 27:55, just one second out of ninth position. Veiga was one of two runners in the top 21 finishers to represent a team other than USM.

Sophomore Bosco Oringa (Portland, Maine), junior Josh Grenier (Otisfield, Maine), and junior Dan Kelleher (Norton, Mass.) placed 30th, 31st, and 32nd, respectively, to help UNE edge-out Lyndon State for second.

The Nor'easters are off for two weeks until the Elms College Invitational on September 26.
