Gulls soar to victory at UNE Invitational

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Endicott College had its top four players card scores below 80 for a 309 total and the win at the University of New England Invitational Friday, held at Nonesuch River Golf Course.

The University of New England took second place with a team total of 324, while the University of Southern Maine (328) and Saint Joseph's Colege (340) rounded out the field.

Gulls junior Andrew LaRocque (Averill Park, N.Y.) earned medalist honors at the event, posting a 5-over-par round of 75.

Senior Drew Sullivan (Katonah, N.Y.) finished in second place individually, and freshman Jackson Wyman (Falmouth, Maine) tied for third with a 78. Senior Daniel Ryan (Plymouth, Mass.) accounted for the other Endicott scoring, firing a 79.

The Nor'easters were led by junior Griffin Andrews (Rye, N.H.) with a 78. Sophomore Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) added a score of 80, and both senior Nathan Fairfield (Bath, Maine) as well as junior Steve Dillon (Sanford, Maine) carded rounds of 83.

Southern Maine got a score of 79 from senior Ryan Daly (York, Maine) and sophomore Brian Moskevich (Buxton, Maine) to help the Huskies take third place in the four-team field. Sophomores Cody Berkowitz (Saco, Maine) and Zach Porter (Keene, N.H.) posted scores of 84 and 86, respectively, to complete the USM scoring.

Senior Steve Sands (Westbrook, Maine) recorded the low round for Saint Joseph's with 80. The Monks also got an 85 from sophomore TJ Garske (Federal Way, Wash.) and 87 from senior Michael Patrick (Wells, Maine).

UNE will play in the Colby College Scramble Saturday, while Southern Maine and Saint Joesph's participate in the Bowdoin College Invitational the same day.
