STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back on its way to a 20-6 non-conference win over St. Joseph's College in a game played under a steady rain Monday afternoon.

The win is the second in a row for the Nor'easters, who improve to 3-6.  St. Joe's now stands at 3-3 on the season.

Five different players scored in the opening 7:11 to give UNE a 5-0 advantage.  The Monks were able to recover over the ensuing nine minutes, and after a pair of goals by Lauren Hagerman, trailed 8-4 at the 14:08 mark.

The Nor'easters exploded for nine consecutive scores -- three by Kate McCarter -- to establish a commanding 17-4 lead.  St. Joe's would notch a goal just before the break to trail 17-5 at intermission.

Both teams' attack slowed dramatically in the second frame, with the squads combining for just four goals after racking up 22 in the first half.

McCarter and Amanda Barker finished with five goals apiece to lead the way for UNE.  Mallory Long chipped in three goals, while Danielle Cate and Ginny Lee each added a pair.  Cate handed out two assists to accumulate four points in the win.

Hagerman led the way for St. Joe's with three scores and two assists.  Alyssa Marchant found the back of the cage twice.

Goalie Tara Geraghty had three saves for the Nor'easters, while Taylor Allison registered six for the Monks.

The Nor'easters host Endicott College in a 4:00 p.m. start Wednesday.
