Roger Williams advances past UNE with 21-8 victory

The Nor'easters suffered a 21-8 loss to red-hot Roger Williams in the TCCC quarterfinals

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Kasey Beckwith scored four of her five goals in the second half to help No. 2 Roger Williams University pull away from No. 7 University of New England for a 21-8 women's lacrosse victory in the opening round of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.

With their 10th consecutive win, the Hawks advance to the semifinal round to host No. 6 Curry College, an upset winner over No. 3 Western New England College.  The Nor'easters conclude their season at 4-13.

Beckwith and Claire Halliday each scored a game-high five goals to lead the Hawks.  Jackie Criss chipped in four goals and three assists.

Amanda Barker and Kate McCarter had two goals apiece to pace UNE.  Sophomore goalie Tara Geraghty turned away 10 of 31 shots on goal.

The score was tied 3-all midway through the first half when the Hawks tallied six of the next seven goals to establish a 9-4 advantage.  Halliday notched a pair of scores during the spurt.

Goals by McCarter and Kim Bilodeau got the Nor'easters back within three (9-6), but Jackie Criss converted a free-position attempt with 35 seconds remaining in the frame to give the hosts a 10-6 cushion heading into the break.

Barker opened the second-half scoring for UNE before Roger Williams reeled off eight straight goals -- three by Beckwith -- to put the game away.

Mallory Long and Jessy Dvorak combined to come up with nine draw controls for the Nor'easters, who trailed in that category (20-11), as well as shots (40-23).
