Hawks fly away in second half to down UNE

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Roger Williams University Hawks closed the game by scoring eight unanswered goals for a 21-9 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England Nor'easters on Saturday afternoon.

Roger Williams picked up its sixth straight win to improve to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.  UNE stands at 3-10 overall, 2-5 in TCCC games.

After Amanda Barker converted a free-position shot less than two minutes into the second half to pull UNE within four (13-9), the Hawks held the Nor'easters scoreless the rest of the way while scoring eight times.  Jackie Criss and Claire Halliday combined for six of those goals.

Kate Malenczak led all scorers with five goals in her team's winning effort.  Criss added four goals and five assists for the Hawks, who held an advantage in shots (57-29) and ground balls (40-26).

Kate McCarter scored four times to pace UNE.  Barker chipped in with a pair of goals.  First-year defender Jessy Dvorak played strong game with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.  

Sophomore goalie Tara Geraghty made 15 saves for the Nor'easters, who will look to snap a four-game losing streak Wednesday when they host Gordon College at 4:00 p.m.
