WATERVILLE, Maine --- The second-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team scored eight goals in the opening 8:28 of the game in a 21-2 non-conference win over University of New England on Wednesday at Bill Alfond Field.
Becky Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) had three goals and two assists to lead the Mules, who won for the 10th straight time in improving to 11-1 overall. Claire Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) added two goals and two assists, while Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) had three goals. Kathleen Kramer (Norwell, Mass.), Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.), and Caroline Atwater (Catonsville, Md.) all had two goals and one assist. Cary Finnegan (West Hartford, Conn.) also scored two goals, while Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.) had one goal and two assists.
The Mules' Mary Clare Snediker (New Canaan, Conn.), a senior defender, scored her first collegiate goal in her final regular season home game. Lauren Strazzula (Norwell, Mass.) and Casey Thomas (Needham, Mass.) both had one goal and one assist for Colby. Julianne Kowalski (Pinebrook, N.J.) had her first collegiate assist on the goal by Snediker.
Colby scored four goals in a span of 1:20 during the 8-0 scoring run to start the game. UNE (3-9) cut the lead to 8-1 on a goal by junior Liz DeGrandpre (Freeport, Maine), but the Mules scored the final nine goals of the half to take a 17-1 lead at intermission.
Sophomore Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) had the other goal for UNE.
Colby plays at Amherst College on Saturday at 11 a.m., while UNE visits Roger Williams at 1 p.m. on the same day.
