Robichaud, MacKay help lead Curry past UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Rachel Robichaud (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Nikki MacKay (Framingham, Mass.) scored six and five goals, respectively, helping lead Curry College to a 16-12 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the University of New England in women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon.

The Colonels improve to 6-3 overall with the win, and get their first TCCC victory of the season (1-2).  The Nor'easters fall to 1-6 overall, 1-2 TCCC.

After the teams exchanged the first six goals of the contest, Curry gained the lead for good at the 13:49 mark on a goal by sophomore Emily Summers (Kittery, Maine) off a pass from junior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.).

The Colonels reeled off the next four goals to take an 8-3 advantage into the break.

Robichaud opened the scoring in the second half just over a minute into the period, and following a UNE goal, Hansbury and Robichaud found the back of the net to give Curry its largest lead of the game (11-4) with 24:36 remaining.

The Nor'easters did not go away easily, tallying five of the next six goals to pull within three (12-9) with 9:56 on the clock.

The teams traded scores before Curry struck twice in a 23-second span to increase the to five (10-5) and put the game out of reach.

Hanbury chipped in with three goals for the Colonels, who travel to play Keene State College on Thursday.  Junior goalie Kerri Shaw (Arlington, Mass.) made 10 saves for the winners.

Sophomore Kate McCarter (Bellingham, Mass.) led UNE with a career-high five goals, while classmate Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) added three.

Sophomore Tara Geraghty (Barrington, R.I.) recorded 14 saves between the pipes for the Nor'easters, who visit Salve Regina University Saturday for a TCCC match beginning at 4:15 p.m.
