BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) made both of her goals count -- scoring twice in extra time -- to give the New England College Pilgrims a 14-13 overtime victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the first of the season for NEC, now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Nor'easters stand at 1-5, 1-1 in TCCC games.
Trailing 12-10 with less than two minutes to play in regulation, UNE forced overtime on back-to-back goals by juniors

Tanguay scored the only goal of the first three-minute overtime period, then notched an insurance goal -- the eventual game-winner -- 1:20 into the second additional three minutes

Kim Bilodeau (Durham, Maine) pulled the Nor'easters within one (14-13) with 1:06 remaining, but the Pilgrims would hold on to secure the win.
Senior Brandi Vittum (Reading, Vt.) led the way for NEC with five goals. Sophomore Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) added two goals and three assists. Goalie Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) had a strong performance, recording 15 saves, 10 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

The Pilgrims, who play at Nichols College on Tuesday, helped their cause by winning 23 of 31 draws and converting 4 of 5 free-position shots.
