Kate McCarter (Bellingham, Mass.) scored four goals apiece, and the University of New England fended off a late Colby-Sawyer College rally for a 13-12 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse win Wednesday afternoon.
The Nor'easters (1-4, 1-0 TCCC) picked up their first win of the season, while the Chargers (2-1, 0-1) suffered their first setback.
UNE started quickly behind the play of Barker, who found the back of the cage four times over the opening 11:15 to help the Nor'easters build a 5-2 lead.
Senior Allicia Murphy (North Bennington, Vt.) then took over for the Chargers, scoring three of her team's four consecutive goals to give the visitors a 6-5 lead.
The Nor'easters responded with seven unanswered goals -- three to close the first half and four to start the second -- to double up Colby-Sawyer at 12-6. Sophomore

The Chargers battled back to score six of the game's final seven goals over the closing 11:15, but were never able to tie the score.

Murphy finished with a game-high five goals to lead all scorers. Junior Elaina Kennedy (Sunderland, Mass.) contributed three goals for the Chargers, who lost despite holding an advantage in shots (29-25) and draw controls (18-9). Junior Alicia Foss (Greensboro, Vt.) came up with seven stops between the pipes.
Each team returns to action with conference home games Saturday. The Chargers face Western New England College at 1:00 p.m., and the Nor'easters entertain New England College at 4:30 p.m.
