BRISTOL, R.I. -- Sophomores
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) and
Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) each won events on day two of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women's Swimming Invitational at the Aquatics Center on the campus of Roger Williams University Saturday, helping the University of New England finish in second place out of six teams.
The Nor'easters totaled 402 points over the 19 events, finishing second only to the host Hawks. Roger Williams racked up 690 points after taking 14 of the events to claim the overall title.
Western New England College came on strong to grab third place with 227 points, while Colby-Sawyer College (194), Regis College (145), and Gordon College (115) rounded out the field of six.
Wareham added to her victory in the 50-yard freestyle from Friday by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 56.13. She also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, as RWU's Molly Marrington touched the wall 0.91 seconds before her.
Shea narrowly beat out RWU sophomore Ursula Nickerson in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.35 -- good for a 0.59-second win. Nickerson got the better of Shea in the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:39.34 to edge out Shea by 0.16 seconds in the latter of the two.

Alison Leopard (Bloomington, Ill.) and first-year
Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) picked up second-place finishes in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events, respectively.

Morgan Lawless (Kirkville, N.Y.), and sophomore
Allie Travnik (New Lenox, Ill.) put forth solid efforts to place fourth in three other races.
Shea, Wareham, Arsenault, and sophomore
Hannah Lipomi (Enfield, Conn.) teamed up to take second in the 200-yard medley relay behind RWU, as the Hawks won all four relay events during the competition.
RWU first-year Ashley Kichline reigned over the backstroke events, claiming both the 100- and 200-yard races. Junior Caitlin O'Connor notched a win in the 200-yard butterfly to go with her 200 IM win from Friday, and senior Brigid Houlihan took the mile event.
Regis first-year Christina Estrada accounted for the other two swim events of the meet, coupling the 200-yard freestyle victory with Friday's 500 free title.
The Nor'easters close out the semester next Saturday, when WNEC comes to Biddeford for a 1 p.m. meet.
