BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) won all three of her events and classmate Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) notched a pair of wins to help lead the University of New England to a 154-108 victory over Western New England College in women's swimming action Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Shea claimed the 100-yard individual medley (1:09.94) by 0.63 seconds ahead of WNEC senior Krista Goulet (Saco, Maine). She took the 100-yard breaststroke by half a second over teammate Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine), and was also victorious in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.63).

Wareham cruised to first place in the 50- (26.70) and 200-yard (2:06.98) freestyle events.

First-year Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Alison Leopard (Bloomington, Ill.) also picked up individual wins for UNE (4-2).

Arsenault topped Goulet by 0.12 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 101.17. Earlier in the meet, Arsenault finished second in the 50-yard backstroke by just 0.01 seconds, as WNEC sophomore Ashley Petersen (Manchester, Conn.) recorded one of her two wins.

Petersen (1:08.77) edged UNE sophomore Allie Travnik (New Lenox, Ill.) in the 100-yard backstroke by 0.3 seconds later.

Leopard won the 500-yard freestyle event, clocking a time of 5:47.55. Goulet got the best of Leopard in the 400-yard individual medley.

Junior Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, Conn.) tallied two wins on the day for Western New England, in the 50- (30.81) and 100-yard (1:06.92) butterfly events.

The two teams split the relay events -- the Golden Bears taking the 200-yard freestyle by just over a second, and the Nor'easters touching the wall first in the 200-yard medley.

Both squads are off until after the holidays. UNE visits Bates College for a tri-meet with the Bobcats and Norwich University on January 9, while WNEC (1-5) is at Regis College for a tri-meet with the Pride and Bentley College on January 13.
