WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Following his victory last week at the TCCC Championship, University of New England junior
Matt Veiga (Lynn, Mass.) put forth another solid effort in the men's race at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship hosted by Williams College Saturday, finishing seventh out of 296 runners.
First-year Greg Redfield of Johnson & Wales University claimed the individual title, completing the 8k course in a time of 26:11. Saint Vincent College sophomore Kevin Wanichko finished second in 26:40, and senior Doug Brecher of Bates College took third in 26:48. Veiga crossed the line 47 seconds behind the winner, earning all-ECAC honors in the process.
For the fifth consecutive year, Williams College came away with the team title. The Ephs (85) edged out runner-up Saint Vincent's, which totaled 89 points. Bates (101), Amherst College (111), and Vassar College (159) rounded out the top five teams.
The Nor'easters placed 19th in the 43-team field, with a total of 592 points. Juniors
Dan Kelleher (Norton, Mass.),
Josh Havelin (Seneca Falls, N.Y.), and
Josh Grenier (Otisfield, Maine) also had strong performances, finishing 114th, 136th, 153rd, respectively.
UNE concludes its season next Saturday at the NCAA Regional in Cumberland, Maine.
