BANGOR, Maine -- The University of New England women's swim team won 10 of 13 events on the day to post a comfortable 157-87 victory over Husson University Saturday afternoon at Webber Pool.
For the third time in five meets, sophomore
Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) notched three individual victories to help the Nor'easters pick up the win. Wareham took a pair of butterfly events (50- and 200-yard) as well as the 200-yard freestyle. Her time of 29.02 in the 50 fly narrowly edged out Husson's Erin Doucette (Hampden, Maine) by 0.17 seconds.
Classmate
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) and senior
Alison Leopard (Bloomington, Ill.) each recorded a pair of wins in support. Shea claimed the breaststroke events (50- and 200-yard), while Leopard won the long distance freestyle events (500- and 1,000-yard).
Sophomores
Nori McLeod (Wiscasset, Maine) and
Hannah Lipomi (Enfield, Conn.) each tallied individual wins, coming in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, respectively. First-year
Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) also raced to one victory in the 50-yard backstroke, and added two second-place finishes.
Doucette and sophomore Amanda Mason (Dexter, Maine) each finished first in one event for the Eagles, while the duo led Husson to a win in the lone relay event of the day (200-yard freestyle).
UNE returns to action Tuesday when Colby College comes to Biddeford for a 6 p.m. meet. The Eagles are off until the first weekend in December when they compete at the GNAC Championships in Boston.
