BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore forwards Reave MacKinnon (Winnepeg, Manitoba) and Brady Earle (Columbia, Md.) each scored a goal and handed out two assists to lead the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights to a 4-0 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in an ECAC Men's East hockey game Saturday afternoon at Biddeford Arena.

The victory enabled the Purple Knights (1-1, 1-1 ECAC East) to earn a split of their opening series of the season. UNE now stands at 0-3 overall, 0-2 in league play.

Earle opened the scoring at 8:06 of the first period when he found himself open in the right slot and one-timed a pass from MacKinnon.

The score would remain 1-0 until 7:59 had elapsed in the second frame. MacKinnon poked home the puck from just in front of the right side of the cage, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Junior Nick Sheehan (Potsdam, N.Y.) added to the Purple Knight lead just 37 seconds into the final period, converting passes from MacKinnon and Earle.

Senior forward Jean-Maxime Legare (Saint Augustine, Quebec) would tack on an unassisted goal with 7:31 elapsed in the third to make the final score 4-0.

First-year goaltender Mike Dizgun (Kirkland, Quebec) made 24 saves to register the shutout for the Purple Saints, who outshot the Nor'easters 45-24.

Rookie netminder Dallas Ungurian (Edmonton, Alberta) stopped 41 shots for UNE, which continued its early-season short-handed success by killing off all seven of Saint Michael's power-play opportunities.

The Purple Knights will skate at Assumption College on Tuesday (6:35 p.m.). The Nor'easters return to action next weekend (Nov. 28-29) at the Skidmore College Tournament. UNE opens up with SUNY-Brockport on Saturday (5 p.m.).
