Tupper, Cowles lead Nor'easters in rout of Regis

WESTON, Mass. --  Sophomore Brianna Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) and senior Anne Cowles (Franconia, N.H.) each recorded a hat trick and two assists as the University of New England defeated Regis College, 11-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon.

With three goals each, Cowles and Tupper matched the program's single-game mark for goals which had been achieved eight times previously.

Senior Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, Maine) chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist for the Nor'easters (6-2, 3-1 TCCC), who topped Regis for the fifth straight meeting between the two teams.

UNE also got scores from junior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) and first-years Krystal-Kalene Sleboda (Smithfield, R.I.) and Nicole Rossi (Plymouth, Mass.). Sophomore Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) and first-year Molly Hayden (Stowe, Vt.) each tallied one assist.

Junior goalie Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) only needed to make one save for the Nor'easters, while her counterpart, first-year Sara Ankerud (Groton, Mass.), recorded 23 saves for Regis.

UNE, which out-shot its opponent, 43-2, travels to Gordon College Saturday for a conference match beginning at 11 a.m. The Pride (0-7, 0-3 TCCC) host Anna Maria College the same day.
