Veiga claims TCCC Runner of the Year title with win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- With a time of 26:41, junior Matt Veiga (Lynn, Mass.) raced to victory at The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Saturday, helping the University of New England to a third place showing as a team.

Veiga was named TCCC Runner of the Year for his efforts -- his third TCCC all-conference honor in as many years -- finishing 27 seconds ahead of individual runner-up Mitch Leveille of Roger Williams University on the 8k course.

The Hawks won the team title with a score of 33, edging Gordon College which took second with a total of 39. The Nor'easters posted a score of 84 to end up in front of host Western New England College (110) and Endicott College (149) in the top five.

Junior Josh Havelin (Seneca Falls, N.Y.), classmate Dan Kelleher (Norton, Mass.), and sophomore Bosco Oringa (Portland, Maine) crossed the line for UNE within 12 seconds of each other to place 18th, 20th, and 21st, respectively.

The Nor'easters travel to Williamstown, Mass. next Saturday (Nov. 7) for the ECAC Championship.
