Taryn Flagg's 16th goal of the season lifted the Nor'easters to their ninth straight win
Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior forward
Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, Maine) scored 10:33 into sudden-victory overtime to give the University of New England a 3-2 win over Bridgewater State College in non-conference field hockey action under the lights Tuesday evening.
Flagg picked up a rebound and ripped a shot from about eight yards out to give the Nor'easters a walk-off win to extend their win streak to nine games and improve their overall mark to a program-best 13-2.
Prior to Flagg's tally, all of the scoring was done in the first half. Sophomore
Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) got the Nor'easters on the board first, converting a drive from the far right for her 14th goal.
The Bears recovered with back-to-back goals to grab a 2-1 advantage. First-year Shelby Farland tucked in a pass from sophomore Courtney Martins (New Bedford, Mass.) at 14:03, then Farland blasted a shot that first-year Megan Cullinane (Lunenberg, Mass.) tipped in for her first collegiate goal at 28:34.
The Nor'easters would draw even less than five minutes before intermission when sophomore Brianna Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) converted a rebound.
UNE outshot the Bears 22-5 after halftime, but Bridgewater State junior goalie Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) was brilliant, making several key stops to extend the contest.
Flagg's game-winner broke her own school single-season record for total points -- previously 39 -- and tied her own mark of goals in a season with 16.
Junior
Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) made two saves to record the victory for the Nor'easters, who have drawn a bye in the opening round of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship and will host the winner of Gordon College and Nichols College next Wednesday (Nov. 4).
The Bears (9-6), who played their fifth overtime game of the season, will conclude their regular season Saturday at Plymouth State University (1 p.m.).
