Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) scored an unassisted goal just 4:18 into the contest and the University of New England held on for a 1-0 non-conference victory over Colby College in field hockey action Tuesday evening at Bill Alfond Field.

Franey's sixth goal of the season gave the Nor'easters (10-2) their program-record sixth straight win, eclipsing a five-game streak reached in 2004. The 10-win total matches the single-season mark, set during the same season.

Junior goalie Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.), who earned her fifth shutout in the last six games, made a season-high 12 saves.

The Mules (5-7) controlled play throughout, finishing with a 20-4 cushion in shots and 11-2 edge in penalty corners, but could not find the equalizer.

UNE resumes its suspended contest with Western New England College Thursday at 7 p.m., leading 2-0 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half of play.

Colby, which received one save from Liz Fontaine (Wilbraham, Mass.), returns to action Saturday at Connecticut College.
