Bowdoin edges USM in state meet; Nor'easters fifth

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Led by a one-two finish by Colman Hatton and Thompson Ogilvie, Bowdoin College won the 2009 Maine State Meet by five points, topping the University of Southern Maine in a tightly contested event.

The University of New England Nor'easters placed fifth out of eight entries with a team score of 179.

Junior Matt Veiga was the first UNE runner to cross the line, finishing 23rd with a time of 28:05 over the eight-kilometer loop.

The remainder of the Nor'easters' scoring runners were tightly bunched. Junior Josh Grenier was 63rd, while classmate Josh Havelin, junior Dan Kelleher and sophomore Bosco Oringa finished consecutively in 65th to 67th places, respectively.

UNE has a week off before competing in the TCCC Championship on Oct. 31. Western New England College will be hosting the meet that starts at 1 p.m.
