Ayla Nelson made 10 saves to record her fourth straight shutout and extend her scoreless streak to 299 minutes
Box Score
FARMINGTON, Maine -- Senior Anne Cowles and sophomore Brianna Tupper provided the offense, and junior goalkeeper Ayla Nelson recorded 10 saves as the University of New England ran its win streak to four games with a 2-0 road victory over the University of Maine Farmington on Tuesday afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Nor'easters' (8-2) four-game win streak is their longest since the 2004 season. It was also UNE's first victory in the all-times series with the Beavers, who had taken the previous six meetings between the two squads.
Cowles opened the scoring at 28:12 of the first half, moving her career-best goal-scoring total to six. Senior Taryn Flagg had an assist -- her seventh of the year -- to tie her own school single-season record.
Tupper drove in a cross from sophomore Michelle Oswald at 10:52 of the second half to give UNE a 2-0 cushion.
Nelson and senior back Ginny Lee would make that lead stand up. Lee was credited with one defensive save and made several other crucial stops to preserve the shutout.
Nelson has now gone 299 consecutive minutes without surrendering a goal. The blanking was her fourth consecutive and seventh career.
Sarah Brown made six stops for the Beavers (5-5).
The Nor'easters host a huge The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Saturday when Nichols College comes to Biddeford for a 1 p.m. start. The Bison boast a perfect 12-0 record and sit atop the TCCC standings with a 5-0 mark.
